Last March, as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic became clear, the phone started to ring and the emails came quickly. Donors, friends, and members of the community began to ask what they could do to help Grady and support our frontline healthcare heroes. To everyone who donated financially, provided much needed supplies, and fed Team Grady – we will always be grateful. With your support, we kept our staff and patients safe through one of the most challenging times that not only Grady but every hospital in America has faced.
We hope you will take a moment to review and help us say thank you to the donors listed on the following pages. We would like to especially recognize the Associated Builders and Contractors of Georgia, Bank of America, Douglas J. Hertz Family Foundation, Greater Atlanta COVID-19 Response and Recovery fund (a partnership of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta and United Way of Greater Atlanta), Humana, Lockheed Martin, The Marcus Foundation, NFL Foundation & Players Coalition, O. Wayne Rollins Foundation, Robert W. Woodruff Foundation and Wells Fargo for their incredible generosity toward COVID relief efforts.
While COVID-19 dominated the headlines, our donors also allowed Grady to bring some incredible new programs to life last year. Our Jesse Hill Market — which houses a food pharmacy, teaching kitchen and healthy café for employees and the public —opened in August thanks to the support of donors, including the James M. Cox Foundation, The Home Depot Foundation, and Invest Atlanta. This innovative project is a partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank and Open Hand Atlanta to address food insecurity and chronic disease management among our patients.
Through the investment of the Christopher Wolf Crusade, Grady is now home to a research study to demonstrate the positive impact Life Pain Specialists have on patients struggling with opioid addiction. We have also piloted an integrated care program that allows patients to access much needed behavioral health services in the primary care setting, thanks to the generosity of the John & Polly Sparks Foundation. Finally, the year ended with the opening of an expanded area to Grady’s Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit made possible by The Zalik Foundation and other caring donors.
2020 was also a year of change for the Grady Health Foundation, with A. D. “Pete” Correll’s term as our board chairman coming to a close. His impact on Grady is immeasurable, and it was announced that the new donor-supported Center for Advanced Surgical Services will be named the Correll Pavilion in recognition of his incredible legacy of support. The Correll Pavilion is set to open in 2022. Grady is stronger thanks to the incredible support of our donors and our community. We are grateful for each and every gift we receive and look forward to sharing all that we will accomplish together in the years to come.
